Ricardo Carvalho is a retired Portuguese footballer who primarily played as a center-back. He was born on May 18, 1978, in Amarante, Portugal. Carvalho began his professional career at FC Porto in 1997 and played a key role in the team's success during his time there, winning three Primeira Liga titles and the UEFA Cup.
In 2004, Carvalho joined Chelsea FC in the English Premier League where he continued to establish himself as one of the top defenders in Europe. He won numerous trophies with Chelsea, including three Premier League titles and the UEFA Champions League in 2012.
Carvalho also had successful stints with Real Madrid and AS Monaco before retiring in 2018. He earned over 80 caps for the Portuguese national team and was a part of the squad that reached the final of Euro 2004 and won Euro 2016.
Known for his intelligent defending, excellent positioning, and ability to read the game, Carvalho is widely regarded as one of the best center-backs of his generation. After retiring as a player, he has worked as a coach at various clubs and continues to be involved in football.
